The old adage ‘the kitchen is the heart and soul of the home’ rings true to us at Think Built, so call us sentimentalists, but making changes to our kitchen is a financial and emotional investment. Really, your kitchen has to withstand weekly lunches, grocery hauls, food tantrums, splashes, breaks, burns and everything in between, so making changes and deciding which trends to invest in can be a tricky one!
Think Built, based in the Sutherland Shire, knows this all too well, having designed many residential and commercial kitchens with their clients, achieving their dream space that is beautiful, functional, durable and timeless. If you’re looking to renovate, spend your precious pennies wisely and look at these kitchen trends that get the Think Built tick of approval ✅
Experimental splashbacks
Much like doors and drawers, splashbacks heavily contribute to the overall look and feel of a kitchen. Whilst last year's splashback trend saw an emphasis on the use of luxe materials like marble, 2019 kitchen splashbacks will make a bigger and bolder statement — think bright hues and geometric patterned tiles.
Black or gold finishes
Moody hues and metallics are making a comeback to the kitchen in 2019, with matte black fortifying itself as the colour of choice. The captivating trend is dominating every element of kitchen design, from cabinetry to splashbacks and hardware, and is perfect way to add a sense of drama, particularly in an entertainer's kitchen. Some bold renovators are opting for gold tapware, which increases the luxe factor of a space exponentially, if done correctly.
Kitchen pendants
While pendants were once reserved for the formal dining room (reserved only for special occasions, but no-one ever used – what was with that phase!?), kitchen pendants are here to stay. No-one wants to cook in their own shadow, and kitchen pendants are an aesthetically beautiful, functional addition to your kitchen, especially against a white palette, and can be used to integrate accents of another material.
